Plots: Plots will be offered to returning gardeners by mid-February of the following year.  The fee is $20 for a single plot (4’ x 8 ½’). The season runs from May 1st to November 1st. The garden will be open from dawn to dusk. Any gardener who is not interested in returning, shall notify the Recreation Office by February 1st. Open plots will be assigned off the waiting list. The garden should be planted by June 1st. If the plot must be abandoned, please notify the Holmdel Twp. Recreation Office, and the plot will be assigned to the next person on the waiting list.

Volunteering: All gardeners are asked to volunteer 4 hours per season to maintain the garden as a whole by spreading wood chips on the paths in the spring, weeding common areas in the summer and doing garden cleanup in the fall.

Parking: Parking is behind the Community Center. Please leave the spaces in front of the garden for Post Office and Community Center users.

Weeds: Please keep your plot and the paths near it weeded. Place weeds and other garden trimmings (cut into pieces) on the compost pile in back of the garden (no plastic bags). Diseased plants, weeds gone to seed, sticks and other trash go to the dumpster next to the parking lot.

Unkempt Plots: Owners of unkempt plots will receive a two-week warning after which the plot will be considered abandoned and will be forfeited. If you are going to be away for some time, consider asking a neighboring gardener to water and weed for you.

Invasive Plants: No invasive species of plants may be planted in the community garden.

No Poison Policy: No chemical herbicides or pesticides may be used. Use only organic fertilizers; approved pest and weed controls will be emailed and posted at our information kiosk.

Shade: In order not to shade a neighboring garden plot, avoid growing structures over 4’ high, corn, tall sunflowers and invasive plants are not allowed in the garden.

Water: Turn off the water and wind up the hose if you are the last user.

Tools: Tools are available for all gardeners in the shed. The shed is located on the wall against the Community Center. Please remove excess dirt on tools, return to the shed when done.

Children & Pets: Small children must be supervised by adults. No dogs inside the garden. Smoking and consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted. Failure to comply with any of these rules may result in forfeiture of the plot, without refund.
